From the CBS Diversity Networking Group, many affinity groups have blossomed, such as CBS’s Women’s Affinity Group, which serves as a great channel to network and share common interests. The affinity group allows an opportunity for corporate-wide networking, mentoring, career development and comradeship.
For their April event, in conjunction with CBS’s Diversity Employee Networking Group, the affinity group co-hosted “A Conversation with Mellody Hobson,” at CBS headquarters in New York. Following the dynamic Q&A led by SVP & Chief Diversity Officer, Josie Thomas, CBS employees were meeting and greeting, sincerely embracing one another. The event is available online through CBS’s workplace portal for all employees to view.
At a speaker series in November of 2011, Simon & Schuster author Betsy Myers shared the skills she learned from her front-row seat at the White House as she discussed her book, Take the Lead: Motivate, Inspire, and Bring Out the Best in Yourself and Everyone Around You. This led to a conversation of uniting. The push for corporate unification stemmed from women looking at a great example in Myers, and listening to hear describe her journey to find her “authentic self.” Myers’ lessons of leadership were so inspiring that, with the support of Josie Thomas, we formed our own women’s affinity group here at CBS.
I am proud to see this culture of corporate inclusiveness here at CBS. Working with women in executive roles such as Jo Ann Ross, President, Network Sales, CBS Television Network, Chief Compliance Officer Hazel-Ann Mayers, and SVP & Chief Diversity Officer, Josie Thomas is an invaluable support system, and proves how much of an asset women are to the Corporation. I eagerly look forward to future CBS Women’s Affinity Group events, as well as meeting and greeting admirable, brilliant women who take bold and ground-breaking action.
