On May 11th, for the 6th consecutive year we hosted more than 400 community members at our 2011 Asian Pacific American Month Reception held off site at the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center in the South of Market Cultural Center in San Francisco. Community members got to celebrate the month with food and drink and meet producers from news, Eye on the Bay, and public affairs shows to pitch events. It was emceed by CBS 5 reporter Grace Lee. This year’s reception was also a kick-off for the 7th Annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration which both stations also sponsor to be held on May 21st with an expected attendance of 100,000.
We also partnered with the Asian American Women Artists Association who provided art work in the gallery space entitled “A Place of her Own”
In addition to celebrating the month producers also got story ideas for future programming. Next up Hispanic Heritage Month in September/October. We continue to value and represent diversity on our air 24/7/365 but these gatherings are a fun way to actually reach out to the community beyond coverage.
