For the second year RAD, the CBS Diversity Employee Resource Group, partnered with WHY NOT CARE, for a Back to School Donation Drive to benefit the Lower East Side community, which has a very large low-income population. For two weeks, RAD collected back packs and school supplies, with collection bins at CBS Headquarters, the Broadcast Center, Showtime, Simon & Schuster and CBS Interactive, with a final collection at a RAD Summer Networking Mixer where employees brought additional donations and shared conversation and networking. RAD collected over 2000 back to school items which included back packs, notebooks, crayons and everything kids need to get back to school. The donations were distributed at the second Annual Lower East Side United Festival held Sunday, August 26th. In addition to back to school supplies the festival provides the community with information and access to free resources available throughout the Lower East Side and New York City. “When the team and I arrived to pick up the donations, I was overwhelmed with joy knowing that each one of those items is going to a child in need. This is amazing, thank you so much.” said Martin Medina, Founder, Why Not Care NY, Inc. The festival was a huge success.
