Mark Bennett has been promoted to Vice President, Finance for CBS News, it was announced today by Thomas S. Shilen, Jr., Senior Vice President, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for CBS News. His appointment is effective immediately.
In addition to retaining his current responsibilities of supervising CBS News’ Financial Operations department, Bennett will oversee the Financial Planning and Reporting department. In this new role, he will develop and maintain CBS News’ operating and capital budgets, as well as oversee monthly, quarterly and year-end financial forecasts and reports, among other duties.
A 26-year veteran at CBS, Bennett most recently served as CBS News’ Director of Financial Operations, based in Washington, D.C. There he supervised the News bureau business offices worldwide, and served as a CBS representative on the European News Exchange Executive Committee. Before that, Bennett was the Bureau Manager, Financial Operations and Administration for the CBS News Washington bureau. He also served as the Network’s Director of Planning and Financial Analysis in New York, working on various projects for the Television Stations and Corporate Divisions. Earlier in his career, Bennett was Director of Business Planning and Administration for CBS Sports, Director of Finance for the CBS Enterprises Division and CBS Sports’ Olympics Business manager for the 1992 Albertville and 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. He was also Business Manager for CBS News in Miami, Fla. Bennett joined CBS as a senior financial analyst for the News Division in 1987.
Bennett began his career as a production assistant at WGBH-TV Public Television station before serving as an associate producer and associate director for then-Westinghouse-owned WBZ-TV, now a CBS owned-and-operated station in Boston.
Bennett grew up in Cambridge, Mass., and graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Social Relations. He later graduated from Harvard Business School in 1987 with a Master of Business Administration degree. Bennett and his wife Karyn will relocate to New York.
