“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
– Winston Churchill
I confess it took me a moment to recognize the brilliance in this quote, its insight into achievement and its relevance to women’s history month.
I believe this quote speaks to the courage and perseverance required to overcome challenges and address issues in order to achieve any goal. More importantly, the critical element is attitude. It’s the power to be positive and remain enthusiastic that creates the momentum to succeed.
It’s not a mindset unique to sales, marketing or any one area. It requires an ability (learnt or innate) to dust yourself off and to continuously strive forward. Admittedly, it’s not always easy. Months invested in a project or initiative that doesn’t come to fruition is disappointing. However, it’s what you do next that matters.
In celebrating the close of women’s history month, let’s recognize, all the “failures”, all the no’s and all the naysayers; all the women (and men) who undaunted, held fast to their enthusiasm and whose successes have made it possible for women today to have an abundance of opportunities in their lives and careers. Success isn’t stagnant. The cycle continues. We will strive, fail and achieve. So, hopefully, our successes will both feed our individual sense of accomplishment and benefit others.
