CBS Honored with the AFTRA 2011 American Scene Award

Recently CBS was selected as the recipient of the 2011 American Scene “Crystal” Award®, as the top network honoree for its overall commitment to diversity through its comprehensive diversity casting initiatives. CBS Television last won an American Scene Award® in 2003. CBS is the only organization that has received this recognition twice in the history of the award. The Awards were presented during AFTRA’s 63rd National Convention in Seattle. “We value our long partnership with AFTRA and the vision we both share for an industry that reflects the audiences we serve. Our philosophy at the CBS Diversity Institute is that we want to be your “Aunt or Uncle” in the business and serve as the connection for underrepresented groups looking to get in the door,” said Josie Thomas, CBS Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer. “When we say we change lives it is meant in the literal sense. Some of our most recent success stories include actors that were relentless in their pursuit of success… and we at CBS are so fortunate to be on this journey with them and share in their success,” said Fern Orenstein, CBS Vice President, Casting.
