CBS Interactive’s CBS Moneywatch.Com and BNET Win Five Awards in the 15th Annual Best in Business Journalism Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4 — CBS Interactive announced today that CBS and BNET have been honored with five awards for excellence in “blogs,” “projects,” “creative use of online,” and “enterprise,” in The Society of American Business Editors and Writers’ (SABEW) 15th annual Best in Business Journalism competition. The awards contest recognized top publications, websites, and the best business news reporting during 2009.

Less than a year old, CBS won four awards in three categories: “blogs,” “creative use of online” and “projects,” for which the site was honored twice. The “blog” award went to Kathy Kristof, a veteran Los Angeles Times columnist who writes a consumer protection blog called, “Devil in the Details.” As a watchdog for consumers, Kristof uses original reporting to expose the misdeeds of shady insurance salesmen, stonewalling government bureaucrats and money-wasting charities.

CBS also won in the “projects” category for “After the Great Recession” a nine-part multimedia package that explained what a post-crash world would look like, and provided advice on how to thrive financially in the “new normal.” The other entry, which won in two categories — “creative use of online” and “projects” — was the “Ultimate Job Security Guide.” The six-part service journalism package provided original, practical advice on how to get and keep a job. In addition to text, video, and Flash graphics, the package included a Twitter feed written by a recruiter of the mistakes made by job candidates. CBS competed in the “small websites” category for sites with fewer than 500,000 unique users per month in 2009.

BNET, the business Web site for CBS Interactive, won an award in the “enterprise” category. BNET was recognized for “Navigating Through Uncertainty,” a feature package that gave managers insight on how to steer their way through a fog of an unprecedented economic downturn. BNET competed in the “large websites” category for sites with more than 2.5 million unique visitors per month.
