Showtime

2006 marked Showtime's 30th anniversary as a premium television network. Now a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation, Showtime enters 2007 having firmly established itself as a producer and provider of quality original programming. Presented uncut and commercial free, Showtime's diverse programming offers viewers a wide range of options, from the latest box office hits to innovative and groundbreaking series, provocative movies and miniseries, insightful documentaries and a number of special live musical and comedy events. Showtime also continues its reputation of bringing world-class boxing to the air.
Under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Matthew C. Blank and President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt, Showtime has distinguished itself as a network that consistently takes creative risks and continues to push the boundaries of conventional television. Programming such as DEXTER, THE L WORD®, WEEDS, SLEEPER CELL: AMERICAN TERROR and the upcoMing THE TUDORS demonstrate the network's bold programming strategy and are among Showtime's most successful and critically-acclaimed series with strong brand recognition and an increasingly loyal fan base.
Showtime's series have also been recognized by the Hollywood community with major awards and nominations being bestowed on three of the network's top series. WEEDS, a single camera comedy from Lions Gate, earned widespread critical acclaim with its story of a widowed single mother who makes ends meet by selling marijuana in a small suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles. Multi-award-winning actress Mary-Louise Parker stars with Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon. This Golden Globe® Award-winning series (star Mary-Louise Parker, for Best Performance By An Actress In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy) premiered in the summer of 2005 and has been renewed for a third season. Elizabeth Perkins of WEEDS was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award, in the Best Performance By An Actress in A Supporting Role in A Series, Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television category. Making many critics' top ten lists at year end, this series clearly hit a cultural hot button and became a touchstone in 2005.
In a time when people were afraid to discuss terrorism, Showtime boldly chose to premiere a new drama called SLEEPER CELL. In 2006 the second installment - SLEEPER CELL: AMERICAN TERROR - was presented as an eight-part television event . Emblematic of the kind of provocative, edgy programming the network had become known for, the series was critically-acclaimed and was honored with a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture for Television.
2006 will continue the momentum with the return of THE L WORD®, the pioneering series about a group of lesbian friends in Los Angeles. The series will feature new cast members (including a six-episode arc guest-starring Tony® Award-winner Alan Cumming) and continue the tradition of reliably engrossing and relatable storylines.
SHOWTIME will also debut a new series called BROTHERHOOD, a drama about Irish-American brothers on opposite sides of the law in Providence, Rhode Island. Starring Jason Isaacs and Jason Clarke, the first episode is directed by Phillip Noyce ("Clear and Present Danger," "The Quiet American") from a script by Blake Masters (writer of the upcoming McG military thriller "Dreadnaught").
Showtime remains committed to providing subscribers with a wide range of programming options including documentaries, acquisitions and reality programs. Current shows such as PENN & TELLER: BULLSHIT! (a 2004 Writers Guild Award Winner for Best Comedy/Variety Series) continue to break content barriers and will be joined by SEXUAL HEALING with Dr. Laura Berman, a new reality series from Emmy® Award winners Joe and Harry Gantz of "Taxicab Confessions" fame. Each episode will depict the renowned sex educator and therapist guiding three new real-life couples through an intensive week-long relationship workshop.
The network's SHO EXPOSURE, which premieres a new documentary each month, will continue with a brand new slate in 2006. Among the new titles is the award-winning documentary LITTLE MAN, an emotionally charged chronicle of filmmaker Nicole Conn's harrowing experience when a surrogate gives birth to her son Nicholas – 100 days early. The baby weighs only a pound and his medical crisis immediately throws the family into an emotional and ethical tailspin.
Continuing the success of such musical events as last years' USHER: ONE NIGHT ONE STAR LIVE and EMINEM: LIVE FROM NEW YORK CITY, SHOWTIME will proudly present a unique musical and broadcast event. For the first time in over three decades, the 1972 television production LIZA WITH A “Z” will be seen fully restored and completely digitally remastered with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Featuring the incomparable Liza Minnelli singing a variety of songs by John Kander and Fred Ebb, this Peabody and multiple Emmy® Award-winning show was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, fresh from his previous collaboration with Minnelli—the Oscar®-winning "Cabaret." Showtime is proud to resurrect this musical and historical masterpiece along with Academy Award-winning producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Chicago").
